  • I've sowed some radish, two morrisons buckets of carrots and one of spring onion and some sweet corn on the window sill for my mum. I need to sow some more peas but my window sills are full.

    • I sowed another courgette (only one has actually germinated so far!), some more chicory (again, no luck with germination) and a few peas. I think temperatures in the greenhouse may have been too erratic for good germination so the courgette and chicory seeds came inside with me in their little pots, to hopefully germinate on a warm windowsill.

        • Waves hello to everyone

I've sown some tomato seeds today:
          Gardener's Delight
          Sungold
          Maskotka
          Sweet 'n' Neat

This is the first time I've ever sown any seeds of my own, so fingers crossed they all survive

How easy do you find it to grow strawberries from seed and would you mind explaining to me how you did it? I've tried a few times and given up, I placed strawberry seeds on top of compost and watered them every now and again for a few weeks but nothing happened. I'm a bit reluctant to try again just using the same method.

Im looking into the same thing, from what I have seen it seems seeds in a zip lock bag moist kitchen roll with the seeds on left on a sunny window sill seems to be the way to go, just take each of em out as soon as you see the little seeding pop out. Im gonna have a bash of this this year

              • This is the first year I've grown strawberry plants from seed, as our veg patch already had a sizeable strawberry section when we moved to this house (plus I'm more of a raspberry person!). Some Alpine strawberry seeds came my way this year so I just sowed some in a cell tray for the hell of it, and they've all come up very nicely. It was just on a windowsill, nothing clever. I potted them on a couple of weeks ago, and today have just planted them out in the veg patch, between the lemon balm and gooseberries, each small clump covered by an old milk carton (lid on, bottom sliced off).
Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

                • Seed sowing on the lottie this morning - some pre-chitted parsnips and some straight from the packet, some radishes to mark the rows, some carrots, rocket and spinach. Oh and planted out some seedling beetroot started in the warm bathroom.

I need to sort my seed stash out as it is far too big to use in the foreseeable future!

I also plan to sow some cucumber, squash and pumpkin this afternoon - now I have space in the bathroom again
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

                          • I sowed some Seakale seeds in cells almost 6 weeks ago and nothing . . . so while I wait for them, assume they will arrive one day. I have put the remaining seeds on some damp kitchen paper in a closed plastic box to try and "chit" them . . . nothing to lose, lets see what happens
