I don't advise this but I've just got 2 standard table lamps with 35w cfl bulbs for 12 3" pots of seedlings, I've lined a cardboard box with foil and lean this into the seedlings to act as a reflector which makes a lot of difference, the bulbs cost £12 I already had the table lamps and everything else was free

Thought about this Spunky, but I've not got an emersion heater anymore, we switched to gas so the boiler is now in it's place. It still gets warm in there so I could put them in. But I checked the clingfilm wrapped dishes today and on the Habanero one there was a seedling, so it must be working. This is the only one I've seen so far but it's early days yet. The heated propagator looks well though, nice bit of condensation from the heat so I think it will really do the trick

Try a white background instead of foil Spunky, it makes a big difference.

Couldn't wait any longer, so sowed mixed lettuce and hotscotch peppers today. Have put them into a warm cupboard to germinate, not sure where they will go after that as windowsills too skinny, but will sort something out. Put some sweet pea seeds to soak too. Oh how I wish I had a greenhouse! One day...

I've just ordered a mini greenhouse so as soon as that arrived I can get sowing. Tried to use the greenhouse at the allotment last year but it's much easier to care for seedlings at home - can check in them and water them as and when I need to. Can't wait for it to arrive. Lots of tomatoes for us this year, broad beans, peas, sweet peas, flowers for cutting and anything else I can get my hands on

Well I'm really proud of myself because I have NOT started sowing anything yet! I refuse to panic. I do. I decided I was going to make myself wait a bit, just to prove that I could . I've got all my leek seeds and peas and onions and other stuff sitting on the kitchen table glaring at me reproachfully, but I'm hanging on in there! Well at least for the rest of today .
