  • So far, we've planted Chilis (Cayenne, Jalapeno, Rodeo, Fairylight, Orange Habanero and Tangerine Dream), Tomatoes (San Marzano, Gardener's Delight, Moneymaker and Nectar), some Purple Sprouting Broccoli, some early peas, and some onions.
All of these are currently on various windowsills.

I've also put all my early potatoes out to chit, and have a sweet potato in water that I'm hoping to get some slips from.

I'll be sowing more onions tomorrow, and get some of my brassicas started.

Outdoors I have a short row of rocket and cress each which overwintered in the greenhouse, and a row of radishes. This weekend I'll sow more rocket and some lamb's lettuce.

ETA: We also have some peppers (pepito rosso and Californian wonder) on the go. Californian wonder seems to be dead, though

    • Well quite a few of my tomato seedlings are coming up, I've been watching them carefully for a good week wondering if they were going to show their heads, and the little treasures in the most are all up, with a bit of luck the rest will follow soon. muchas gracias to the peeps who donated and the VSP.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

      • Three trays of Early Onward peas up and in the greenhouse.
Sentry, Apache and White Lisbon spring onions up as well.
So far everything has germinated but its now a question of getting them over the next few weeks until its warm enough to plant them out or put them in the greenhouse.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Are those inca berries from the James Wong seed collection by any chance? Last year the germination rate for most was zilch! Perhaps look in the vsp for some more seeds - you might have better luck

They certainly are Scarlet. I have factored in redundancy for failures though, so it's no huge loss. I just got some melon seed in recently, so that along with everything else I've still yet to sow should help alleviate any fears of me failing to overcrowd my garden

The first has my dahlia yams (5/6 sprouted), queensland arrowroot (3/6), golden pearls (5/6), wonderberry (1/6), and inca berries (0/6). The second has yellow strawbs (8/10), black strawbs (4/10), blue strawbs (1/10), and giant red strawbs (6/10). Many of these would benefit from the lid still being on, but some of the eager ones are getting very leggy. My 72 cell windowsill planter has the wild white alpine strawbs in, and they're teeny weeny little pathetic things so I'll be leaving the lid on that a while.

More seeds just landed today too from a late night drunken spree a few days back Not too painful on the wallet though thankfully:
              • Nigels Outdoors Green Chilli,
              • Pyramid Rainbow Chilli Pepper (for the lounge windowsill as I wimped out of calamondin oranges),
              • Sweet Granite Early Melon,
              • Minnesota Midget Canteloupe,
              • Bulgarian Giant Leek
Are the yellow giant red and black and blue strawbs real id heard they where fake !!!!!!!

              • Very good chance they could be. I was rather suspicious about the coloured ones myself, but won't know know for sure till they've grown. I do have seedlings, but what those seedlings will become - who knows for sure. Part of the reason for buying them was due to disbelief. I don't mind being gullible for a few quid occasionally, as I have a plan B with the strawbs anyway

There are very large reds available as plants from reputable dealers though, so there's a marginal chance of those being real at least

                  • After putting it off and putting it off, I finally gave in and started with the seeds this week. I don't have much space, at least until I've cleared out the lean-to. It's full of junk at the moment, and no use to anyone, but this is a shared house, and the junk has an owner, so it cannot be rushed.

I've not planted much yet, just a few early toms (rambling red, sub arctic cherry, tigerella) the mystery chillis my landlord had a bag of, some asparagus and a few flowers- sweet peas, some elderly lobelia seeds, and self saved seeds from the antiri... antyrri... umm... snapdragons my neighbour gave me.

I shall make the first attempt at clearing the lean-to out tomorrow, if I get half a chance.
