  • Just a couple of notes on the sweetcorn Sally, they don't like having their roots disturbed. You'll just need to be a little bit more careful doing it this way, and I'd recommend planting a couple of extra seeds direct in the pot with the others when you plant them out just in case. Once you're happy your plants are OK, you can thin out the surplus ones with scissors/secateurs by cut cropping off the unwanted ones at ground level to avoid disturbing their neighbours. I started some off mine off by planting in modules and got away with it, although I didn't start anywhere near this early. I probably started mine off April-ish I think.

I haven't got the foggiest clue about sweet peas though ....

    • yesterday I sowed:

      Peas
      Brocolli
      Lettuce - 3 types
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Thanks for your help again. Will be looking to start them in April , toms maybe sometime this month, carrots straight outside and runner beans, both of those early May. Oh, and potatoes in bags/pots are chitting now for late march planting I think. Will look forward to reading your blog

          • It's too cold to be putting them out just yet. I would prick them out and re-pot them down to the leaves then put them on a windowsill that gets plenty of light.

              • You could try the greenhouse but leave the prop lid on. It's the lack of light that makes them leggy. Just keep your eye on overnight temps

                      • The best advice I can give is go by the dates on the packet........you've still loads of time if they fail. Some folk don't sow their toms till March/April. They still catch up.

                        • I haven't started any tomatoes yet, as the ones I started in march last year overtook the ones I sowed earlier. So next month(march) will be sowing mine.
