  • Sowed peas (delikata sugar snaps) direct and covered with a cloche to stop the mice eating them, I hope. Planted out some early onward plants that I started a couple of months ago in the greenhouse.
Planted into potswarf French ; tender green: climbing French ; Cobra and Kingston Gold:Runner beans; Enorma,Prize winner, celebration, white Lady and my 'magic bean. 'The latter is a bean that we have been propagating for 4 years from a bean sent home with my youngest from nursery. It spent last year next to some dwarf purple French beans an the bean is now a deep purple. Can't wait to see if it produces purple runner bean pods as well...will wait and see!

            • Hi, I'm new to the forum but using my iPad and I can't figure out how to start a new thread to introduce myself. I've only recently figured out how to reply to an existing thread!
I've got quite a few seeds and seedlings on the go at the moment. I'm trying tomatillos, asparagus peas, pineberrys and cucamelons for the first time this year, the pineberrys I bought as plants, the rest are from seed.
The seeds I've done are about 6 different varieties of tomatoes, 4 types of potatoes, a range of peas and beans, courgettes, turnips, swedes, carrots, melons, parsnips, chard, salad leaves and probably a few other things that I won't remember until I go outside.......

You need to navigate to Browse ( lh button) then go to the exact forum you want say Vegging Out. You now should have a button top right which gives three options one of which is New topic
                Hope that helps!

                  • Potted up the chitted runner beans - White Lady and Scarlet Emperor
Sowed some more mangetout, in pots this time, as the garden sown ones have mostly fallen victim to slugs, and I suspect, sparrows too. Little s*ds. And me still hanging up fat balls for them too. (Sparrows not slugs )

                      • Sowed Runner bean stardust and put some french beans to chit as they are old seed and I want to see how many are viable.

Having real problems with early onward peas this year. The frist lot I sowed in February (6 to a pot) resulted in about 30% germination, which I put down to the early sowing date. I then sowed another lot at the same time as some Meteor, outdoors as a continuation of the same row. The Meteor have grown and are a couple of inches high. Early onward, zilch. Not one plant. A little ferreting in the soil shows that the peas have rotted. So today I put the remainder of the packet to chit to see just how many viable seeds there are in there. This is a new packet of seed, best before July 2016 (Unwins). Not happy

                            • Potted on my beetroot ready to go up to allotment next week along with chitted potatoes, cabbages cauliflowers runner beans all grown from seeds this year no plug veg. Thought I'd try to grow my veg from seeds as last year bought lots of plug plants as I was late starting my allotment due to only getting it in late May, waiting till after Easter and then I'll take them all up, frosts should be over by then. Lots of toms in greenhouse ready for baskets and grow bags again next week due to work pressure.
