        • A little late (I did these a few days ago and they are starting to germinate): Lettuce (lollo rossa, little gem and salad bowl), basil, mizuna, pak choi and broccoli. Almost forgot, carrots (Nantes 2 and Eskimo).

          • Yesterday I sowed fennel, turnips, broccolli and some more carrots direct into the allotment soil.

            • I've been touching up my roots

All Varieties I've never grown before:-

              Beetroot Chioggia (stripy circles)
              Radish Vlata (yellow)
              Carrot Paris Market (round)
Turnip Sweetbell (supposed not to have a bitter aftertaste)

                • Lettuce "Hollywood" - small iceburg type. My last lettuce sowing failed, presumably it was too warm for them, but we are forecast a changeable week so fingers crossed I can get them started okay.

Thanks P - did not realise you could get late varieties of peas, thought 2014 was going to be a pea-free zone for me after all my plants were destroyed. But this gives me hope!

                      • Bought some purple mange tout yesterday and they will be going in later today. Apparently it's fine to sow them in July - I suppose because the pod doesn't have to develop as fully as with ordinary peas.

                          • Sowing: lettuce (Webbs Wonder and Grandpa Admire), more purple mange tout (Shiraz), Borlotti beans and kale. It's a tad late for the Borlottis and the kale, but we'll see.

Planting out - PSB, leeks, swede and lettuce.
