                  • I forgot to report ... I sowed onions on Tuesday. Sturon and Senshyu in deep seed trays, with the intention of planting out in October. I've never tried doing it this way before, but it can't be any worse than the other attempts!

                    • I'm an onion sower too. Sowed 18 varieties of onion, shallot and spring onions - about 12 seeds of each in a module. Hoping to turn some of them into sets to replant next year..............just an experiment

Just a question, did you plant them in modules for planting out? Just on the seed packet of mine it says 'DO NOT TRANSPLANT' soo wondering if it would work

Yes MarkHackwell, I always start them off into modules and then plant out when around 3-4inches in height. I have done this for the last 3 years and always had a reasonable crop. Hope that helps.

                          • Just sown my third lot of chioggia beetroot - in the polytunnel this time though, along with purple top turnips, cabbage and purple sprouting brocolli.
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?
                            Pumpkin pi.

                            • Yesterday I sowed some golden purslane, oriental winter salad mix, and also a few bright lights chard and kale. Today I'll sow some lamb's lettuce and maybe a little more of the oriental salad mix. These are either destined for the greenhouse once the tomatoes and peppers are over or large containers outside it.

                              • Tuesday - sowed oriental mustard, wild rocket, salad rocket, broccoli raab, garlic chives, American land cress and lambs lettuce. Some for the greenhouse, some for outside. First time at most of these, so looking forward to seeing the results. Will be nice to have some pickings in autumn / winter.
Gardening is cheaper than therapy and you get tomatoes
