Main crop potatoes

Hi.

Can anyone suggest main a variety of main crop potatoes which aren't floury. The last ones I grew were King Eds, Maris Piper and Lady Balfour, all of which when mashed were really floury and fluffy and needed loads of butter to make them creamy. Any ideas?

Desiree are quite a waxy maincrop. I don't like floury potatoes either. Red Duke of York can be left to get bigger and used as maincrop too.

I wonder if you would get a better result if you mixed your mash with some milk as well as butter?

I grew Remarka as my maincrop last year, would definitely recommend them. Very versatile to cook, not floury at all. Also they were virtually all slug-free and didn't suffer any scab etc.

My plot neighbour swears by Charlotte. They are ostensibly a second-early salad potato, but he treats them as a maincrop. In 2013 he got a heavy crop of really big tubers and he leaves them in the ground until he needs them. He was still lifting clean unblemished tubers in October, I was jealous.

i don't grow main crop spuds, but the one I buy all through the winter is Harmony. A lovely waxy potato as good baked as mashed or boiled.

We all have our favourites and there are so many varieties, my favourite being Picasso. I also leave Lady Christl a first early in the ground as it produces lovely 'chippers & bakers'.

A farmer recently gave me a bag of Desiree... I love them!

They are great boiled, roasted, chipped.. they do need a little more cooking for mash but are excellent!!

So much so I have bought some - wilkinsons - £2.75 for 2.5kg

I've been told Valor potatoes are lovely, really nice and creamy but I've never tried them myself.. Has anyone else?
