First early potato varieties - help!

Rocket to me, are "meh" potatoes. Neither here nor there. I (no idea why) have grown rocket alongside charlotte (yes, yes not a 1st early) since 2008, and each time I think why do I bother. They don't taste "new", if that makes sense... even if they're cooked instantly. Much better as a jacket spud, if left to grow large.

By gum! Seed spud seem to have gone up in price :O

Thanks all. I may order the three varieties then - Arran Pilot, Pentland Javelin and Lady Christl.

Re boiling not steaming. I'd never considered steaming! However, I shall look into it as that may solve my problem with potatoes turning to mush!

Pentland Javelin for me, also grown Charlottes which were plentiful

One of the reasons spuds turn to mush is that some people go straight from garden to pan.

Spuds are about 80% water so they are best left a couple of days before use.

Although by leaving them a couple of days you loose some of the wonderful newness taste you can get with grow your own so there's pros and cons with everything.

Popped into. Couple local garden centres - wanted to try lady christyl, but they didn't stock them.

Ended up with peatland jav, and a few sharpe's express to try.

Went into Wilkos today and surprised to see loose seed potatoes at small bag at £2.75 and large bag for £5.00 you can mix and match varieties in the bag too I bought Anya and Christie
