  • Reliable non-Hybrid sweet pepper seeds

    Hi,
I'd like to get away from using Hybrid seeds if possible so I can save seeds. I wonder can you recommend varieties that crop well in UK/Ireland and produce viable seeds?

I've grown Gypsy and also Denver which were hybrids and were excellent. I picked up a pack of California Wonder but have read mixed things about them.

    Thanks a lot

I grow and over-winter my California Wonder and they seem to do well.
    Location....East Midlands.

You wouldn't need to save seed from California Wonder as they are the most given away pepper in magazines. I think I have 3 packets. Mine weren't very good last year. Marconi Rosso was much better for me

Thought of that but chances are they are from hotter countries and the varieties would not do as well here. Denver and Gypsy are renowned for doing well in our cooler/duller climates.

Np, didn't link on purpose, as I just seem to be singing their praises all the time, and don't want to be accused of being biased

I also buy sweet pepper seeds from realseeds. Orange bell was the sweetest and best tasting although one plant only yields 6-8 fruits (very large fruits!). The best producer for me was Lipstick, which produced even more than my hybrid plants. I grew both outdoor in pots.

Wow that is steep! I also recommend Sea Spring seeds if you are interested in Lipstick. I think delivery is £2 within Europe.

                        Try Doux d'Espagne
                        Doux D'Espagne

always does well for me, you can save the seeds, and it can be overwintered indoors

                          Hey Redser..
Try Seedaholic, they are Irish based and provide a great service, right down to the presentation and detailed information sheets...
They have some lovely sweet peppers including Corno do Rosso which I grew last year.
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

I may be ordering some red- if you fancy splitting a (few) of packs?

I'm sure it won't cost that for me to post on?
