which side to be on

hi folks
first off I,m new to the grapes.
this will be my first year going for it
only grew spuds in washed out plastic oil drums collected from the beach
and british salad leaves in old fish boxes on top of my log shed
have to keep things high coz of fallow deer and rabbits
I built a greenhouse in November and its still up after our 70/ 80 mph winds
MY FIRST QUESTION AFTER ALL MY READING IS
which side of the 6x 10 greenhouse should I plant tomato, peppers, cucumber on
my thoughts are should they be planted on the side with the sun and obvious heat if we get any, or to the side away from the sun ie pants on the east side or west side

In a greenhouse, it may not matter that much to be honest... Do you plan on growing anything else in the greenhouse?

lots of flowers to put in a couple of old boat at the side of my garden that I have various pots in
I have staging at the gable end and staging up one side, I will be growing carrot beet and some veg on the staging when the flowers are outside,i was thinking which side in relation to less chance of scorching the toms etc

It is an interesting question, I grew tomatoes on the sunny side and cucumbers on the not so sunny side in my GH, but it could have been the other way round I think. In the summer the sun is soon high in the sky and enters the GH via the roof for most of the time.We had a very sunny summer and nothing got scorched but you do need to make sure you have ventilation or they will wilt from too much heat.

wendy c I thought I had though I must not have saved the changes done now
bill hh when I was through all things to consider I included 2 vents and louvre winow
with auto vents, I will also be connecting up a irrigation system because in summer
I do disappearing acts for 3 or four days at a time (sailing)
my concern on the sunny side the toms will be inches from the glass
on the other it could be 1 1/2 mtr

i used to have a greenhouse ( had to get rid of it due to re- designing the garden ) my tomato plants used to grow on all sides of the greenhouse. i never noticed any differences between the ones on one side or the other

TBH I don't think it will make a lot of difference as at some point you will most likely need to shade the greenhouse from the full power of the sun.

...........It also depends on which way your greenhouse is facing. East/West, both sides would get the same.
North/South sun in morning one side and in aftrnoon tuther.

I will just stick to the present config, after bed flowers are outside I will take out some staging and grow some on opposite side

the most important side is the inside . As the others have said, you will in all probability have to screen at some point so what you do within the walls won't really matter.

Welcome to the vine I really don't think it maters really. Just keep the tomatoes well watered and the greenhouse ventilated.

When I had use of my Dad's greenhouse, I grew Tomatoes on the sunny side, and Cucumbers on the shadier side. There was a reason, but I'm darned if I can remember it now!

G4 That would be because cumbers don't like full summer sun. I do the same as you.
