CG, as an aside, when you post your pics, would you keep them and any subsequent posts on the topic in this thread. It helps folks see how things develop over the season

          CG,

if you haven't already seen it, this article by Peter Glazebrook is worth reading. It is really well over the top but it works for Peter. http://www.nvsuk.org.uk/images/user/...Glazebrook.pdf

ok AP, the leaves are getting pretty tall now, and starting to bend over my wire hoops. (See pic).

Also see pic of plant knocked out of pot.

What do you think? Time to put into bigger pots with bigger stakes and hoops????

                  great, thank you.

I have ordered some decent plant support clips from ebay.

I already have some nice size canes.

When the clips arrive I will pot on.

I don't think they will fit on my windowsills then though, I will probably have to put them in the cold conservatory....

ok, here are a couple of them potted on into 6 inch pots.

I need to pick up some more compost on the weekend for the others!

THey are taking up a lot of room now on the windowsills.

I suspect they will have to end up in the unheated conservatory soon. Will they be ok in cooler conditions?

The temperature is usually around 10 degrees day and night in there at the moment. But if we are due a cold snap, then I can turn the heater on for a while.

                    cheers

The trick with onions is to get them growing and keep them growing so Whatever you do, don't risk them getting a check. Onions need a minimum 55f to maintain growth, that's around 13c. if you are maintaining 10c, heating to maintain 2-3 degrees more shouldn't be too expensive (says he hopefully)

Hmmm ok. That's good to know. Based on that though, I will do my best to keep them in the house on windowsills for as long as possible.

                          problems

Here are 2 pics of the same onion.

The base of it looks nice and strong, but why is the top of that one leaf limping like that?

A few of my onions are doing this.

Whilst under the grow light, they were fine.

Is it because they are now adapting to window sill life?

                          Thank you

are both pics of the same onion? The first pic does look as though the onion has a problem but the second one looks fine. The compost looks to be on the dry side in the second pic but that is maybe just the light

                              hi Ap, yes, same onion.

A little dry on top yes, but moist around 1 inch down

going by the second pic, it is going to be fine. Don't know what's going on with that iffie leaf though.
