      Ok, a quick update:

The seedlings, are now looking more like proper plants.

They are still in 6 inch pots. They are around 14" tall (I keep trimming the leaves).

And they are easily 10-12mm in girth at the base.

The only problem, is that the roots are now sticking out of the bottom of the pots!!!!

I was hoping to plant them out around Easter time.

What do you think? Should I pot them on AGAIN?

knock one out of its pot to check what the root growth is. You don't want the plants to become rootbound but onions thrive if they are tight in the pot. If in doubt, pot up into the next size of pot

          THanks AP,

I will knock one out the pot on the weekend, and post a pic.

It might be that they will be fine for another few weeks....

Ok, here is a picture of one of the kelsaes.

They are all around this size now. Approx 8 - 10 leaves, and just over pencil thick.

Knocked out of pot, the roots are at the bottom, but in my opinion not pot bound.

Will these be 'ok' in the existing 6 inch pots for another 4 weeks or so do you think????

            THank you

Looking absolutely great. I think you may well have to pot them on but just keep an eye on them for now.

                thanks AP...

                THats good to hear

Ok, well if I have to pot them on, it just means that they will be in the cool conservatory for a few weeks, instead of on a warm windowsill in the house.

I really hope it is warm enough around easter to plant these out....

might be an idea to move them to the cool conservatory daytime and back to the windowsill overnight. This will harden them off ready for the big move

Problem is AP, my windowsills are quite narrow.

I am only just making the 6 inch pots fit. THat is why I would have to put them in conservatory.

But I could always leave them in conservatory in daytime, and just put them onto dining rm table at night....

I potted the kelsaes on today, they were easily outgrowing the 6 inch pots.

They are now in 7 or 8 inch pots.

Picture here, also showing the 'neck' of the best looking onion.

I have had no choice other than to now permanently relocate the onions to the greenhouse. I just do not have the room in the house.

I am not 'too' bothered, especially as the next week or so is very mild during the nights. If it really gets cold, then I will light the paraffin heater.

At least in the gh, they will get full light for the entire day from all sides.

Picture also here of the red baron, marco and leek seedlings that I have had in the gh for several weeks....

Most of mine still look like large chives. See second pic.

But so far so good with the kelsaes....
