ok, these were getting way too big for the greenhouse, so I planted them out this morning.
Maybe a little too early, but I didn't have much choice!
I hardened them off for a week first.
THey are planted alongside some carrots, and now all fleeced up...
I am deliberately going to grow just one on, in a big pot in the gh as an experiment
Fingers crossed....Attached FilesLast edited by chilli_grower; 04-05-2014, 09:20 AM.

Kristen, as most gardens/allotments are surrounded by fences/hedges/houses, I think you are right about a roof to protect carrots.Last edited by fishpond; 04-05-2014, 09:37 AM.Feed the soil, not the plants.

Quick kelsae update:
I have now pulled a lot of the carrots that were alongside the onions, as they were blocking the light considerably.
THe bulbs are now getting full sun all day (when it is out).
THe foliage is starting to slowly brown at the edges, but I am asuming this is normal as the onion reaches the end of it's life?
THey have a pretty good size on them now.
I hope they don't get ill within the next few weeks.
I'd like them to get a bit bigger!!!!!!
THe biggest is 19 inches circumference.Attached Files

Nice onions "Chilli!"
But sad to say! Having breached the "Summer Solstice" it's all downhill from here!
Sad to think about, but think it was "Kristen" who highlighted the fact with onions, it's all about day length etc
Sure AP shall put in an appearance n prove me wrong!
But think this is why the "Show Bench" folk start em super Dooper early under lights!
Me? I grow em to shove in my face!
N yeah! Been a great year for em this year!

Thought I'd revive this thread!
This year I am having a go at kelsaes again. They are taking priority over the chillies!!!!!
Last year my biggest was 4lb 4oz, I hope to beat that this year....
Here are a few pics I just took of the seedlings after re staking them, and giving them a bit of a trim.
Compared to last year they are certainly thicker and have one extra leaf. This is despite the fact that I sowed them a few weeks later than the previous year.
I also used a different seed supplier this time...
Fingers crossed......Attached Files
