i have always used shop bought tomato food i make a barrel of nettle tea to feed other crops would the nettle tea be ok for toms or do they need the shop bought stuff ? , whats your secret brew ? go on spill the beans
If you have access to seaweed that makes a really good liquid feed for toms. Relatively high in potassium and magnesium and loads of trace elements. I make 10+ gallons every year and dilute it about 5 to 1.
no access to seaweed , just bought some comfrey root cuttings (bocking 14) so will get them in flower buckets in the greenhouse when they arrive and give the comfrey tea ago

You can start them off in buckets by all means, but you'll need to get them in the ground as soon as. They don't really like being in pots, but the main reason is that their roots go deep down, drawing up nutrients, which is why they make a good feed.
