That's the one I read it cover-to-cover without building anything and found it interesting. I'm a programmer by trade, so the coding stuff was an easy read for me, but I build databases, rather than control systems, and I enjoyed learning how software can be used in control systems (not sure that's the right word but you probably get my meaning)

Most recent message in the forum, on that site, is over a year ago, so perhaps its old hat.

I put some temperature sensors on a heating system here to work out how efficient it was, and what sort of stratification I was getting in a hot water accumulator tank. That just required logging some temperature data and then analysing it ... but I'd like to have a go at some home automation. I have one device (switch at the far end of the building to turn on a pump at the other end, sending the signal over the mains wiring) ... the programming language is too simple to be much use for anything other than On/Off, so I could do with playing with something with more capability ...

... perhaps I should have a look at Raspberry Pi?

If you've not come across it before this Dutch guy's home automation is a bit extreme Number of times the fridge has been opened today useful?!! although a log of photographs of anyone who rings the doorbell strikes me as handy to give to police if there is a break-in

Blimey! That site is even more scary than I remember!

"The Bwired Body Weight Monitor is since 16-11-2007 online. This Oregon Scientific BWR102 Weight Scale is wireless connected to my Home Automation system and displaying realtime the Bodyweight of my family members as soon as they step on the scale."

that is followed by a barchar of the weights of the family members ... my family would flip a loop if I did that here!!

I don't know if I should be impressed or very very worried. Off to tell SWMBO that we are getting a toilet flush monitor installed...

I could weigh them when they ring the bell, take a picture, track them opening the fridge and weigh them on the way back out to see how much weight the gained from the fridge!!!
