Do peas need raising hard?

For all my garden exploits, this is my first year growing peas (and sweet peas). With the latter I understand that after germination they need raising 'hard' (I.e frost free but cold and light). Is this the same with edible peas (Alderman for example)?

I put mine (2) into large yoghurt pots with mpc and after watering I leave them to get on with it, they don't seem to be worried about temperature at all, I just put them into a cold greenhouse and never heat it,never had any die on me yet....

I cover the row with plastic to warm it up a bit, then sow the peas thickly mid march. I keep the row covered until after germination - mainly to stop mice pinching the seeds

Once they're growing away I take the covers off and let them get on with whatever the weather throws at them

You can sow peas into a length of plastic guttering (filled with potting compost) and then when they are ready to go out make a shallow trench and "slide" the peas into the trench.

I have done this as I can suspend the guttering from the roof of my conservatory, with some wires, and (so far!) it has prevented the mice from managing to trough the lot!

The answer is still yes, but if you are going to put them outside do it gradually (daytime only for a week or so, and avoid frost).

I have always treated my peas the same as my other seedlings without any noticable problems. Can't say I have ever heard of raising them 'hard'. I sow and put in a small unheated greenhouse and then gradually harden tbem off prior to planting.

That's fine thanks - so long as they don't need raising indoors. Do you germinate in the greenhouse, or a propogator?
