Chitting potatoes are turning green

This is my first post and i would like to say hello to all the forum

I started chitting some potatoes on the window-sill about 2 weeks ago the sprouts are green but also the skin is turning green, is it safe to plant them?, these were potatoes i had from under the sink not seed potatoes. i have some seed potatoes and they are doing well, just thought i'd give them a go i was going to plant them in bags

Hi bobalong and welcome.
Although green potatoes shouldn't be eaten by humans because they're poisonous I've heard that slugs also won't eat them when green. So it could work in your favour!!
Give them a go - not much to lose if they don't grow

Yes. They will go green when exposed to light (don't eat them!), it won't effect the crop that grows from them

There is an increased risk that they may carry disease - "seed potatoes" you buy should be certified disease free - but that is up to you. I don't think there is much likelihood that there will be any problem, but if it were me, and I was planting them on an Allotment, I would want to use certified disease free - I'd hate it to be me that was responsible for wiping out other growers crops! - for my own garden I would be happy to take the risk.

No problem, you won't be eating them. Plant as usual when your ground is ready. Any potato exposed to light will turn green, so make sure when you are growing them that you keep them earthed up.
