I'm back and have a question (chilli related)

Hey guys I have a few chillies up and still waiting for a few to pop up!

But here is my question has anyone grown chillies in quadgrow or chilligrow units I like the concept of them as summer holidays I can't make it to the plot each and everyday and we usually have a few long weekends away!

Also can these be used for tomatoes can't really see a problem with doing that!

Too much phaff for me I'm afraid I find ring culture a more satisfying method for me as I can give the bottom bed a thorough soaking in situation like you mention.

OK the year I took these pictures I grew Tomatoes & Squashes but in alternate years I grow sweet peppers & chillis.

Again since I took these pictures I now make the bottom bed with relatively fresh horse manure ( we get it FOC) which holds the moisture better then it rots down to be dug in as compost at the end of the growing season.

Did try an "Auqa Pot" (Similar sort of set-up to a qaudgrow) for chillies 2 years back, but found no better results than a normal 10" pot to be honest, I was always told "Treat chillies mean to keep em keen" Always works for me, but did try em on tomato's last year, and "new to the scene" last year "Hozelock Growbag waterers"







So if it's a self watering system you are after so you can have a weekend away and not worry about your plants, I couldn't recomend em highly enough!

Why don't you have a bash at making some self watering tubs Darc? There's some info on the vine & lots on utube.

To be honest BM I'm not sure I will be able to get up and do it in time for summer all depends on how my physio and my next check up goes I have bent a screw in my ankle and may need surgery to replace it in a few weeks

But my wife holding the fought I am thinking about putting them in flower buckets with maybe some water retaining crystals chicken manure pellets and some perlite!

Any thoughts???

I frequent a few chilli forums and the quadgrows get a unanimously amazing right up.
Never seen a bad thing said about them and everyone says that their plants grew massively compared to normal pots.
Never used them myself though, so not first hand knowledge

How about just for this year you grew your chillis at home on the windowsill, I used to do that before I had my GH. At least that way you'll be able to keep an eye on your plants and you'll feel like you're growing something you can tend to.

The chicken manure pellets are more suited to leafy things darcy.

I've read about an old sponge cut up to help hold onto water. Personally, I use an automated waterer on a timer (hozelock thingy).... if its for your plot, then how about one of those waterers with a big resivour? Or from a waterbut and solar powered waterer ?
