Unwanted gifts.

Do you ever get given garden ornaments that make you want to vomit? I do, all the time.
I dont mind the odd one, and some are very nice, others are disgusting and embarrasing to have on my plot.
I feel bound out of politness to display these monsters, because you can see the donor looking for them when they come.
So they get pride of place for a week then gradualy receed into the undergrowth until after a year I manage to have an accident with them.
How do others deal with this burden.

I used to do something similar with the M-in-law's pottery she made in Evening Classes...............I'm so clumsy
Actually, my garden is littered with tat! I hide little ornaments in the cracks of the walls, just for fun. They become overgrown with ivy and it always makes me smile when I spot a little china cat or a parrot peeping out from the foliage.

I can tolerate the odd china cat but three foot illumiated butterflies take some hiding, that particular beauty i got rid of claiming it was so gorgeous it had been stolen! "oh " they said "We will see if we can get you another one"

Basically it's a thin line between being rude to the donor and too enthusiastic, I once got a second nylon nightly off the back of getting that wrong - can still hear the static about 35 years on........

My friend and I give each other the worst garden ornaments we can buy as birthday presents! Best one to date was a pink fairy.

Dorothy, there are ornaments and then there are whatever it is they are but not ornaments. I seem to get given the latter.

Maybe Bill it's time for a 'Garden make over' as far as your friends are concerned....declutter....as they say on these home improvement programs.

You could perhaps say this to your friends and give them first refusal on those lovely gifts which they originally gave you? After all....it'd be such a shame to chuck them away/ send them to charity for some other lucky sole to enjoy them?

Having said that...option two is that maybe if you are so politely accepting all these wonderful gifts your friends genuinely think you have no taste at all but really love that sort of thing?

Option three is that your friends are in conspiracy together and just taking the proverbial?????

Bill, I'm embarrassed to say that I have been incredibly and with forethought, totally unrepentantly guilty. As an ex partner I used to let my children go to the Reject Shop (you know how bad it's going to be when it comes from a shop called that) and let the little sweethearts buy the most obnoxious piece of tat for their fathers garden or house.

I'm sorry to say I took great delight in letting them present said Tat, and him having to choke back the vomit and say Thank you so much

And even sadder, after all these years I still have tears of joy running down my face thinking about it.

So if you need to send your disgusting tat somewhere - send it to the single mothers, just before Fathers Day. They'll love ya for it

I am afraid its option 2, I was brought up to show entheusiasm for any gift however revolting so as not to hurt the givers feelings. Tis a cross I have to bear.
