  • Things you did not expect to survive

last year i planted 1 B bean seed,it grew fine, and has even had flowers since last year, they come and go,but not set,on closer inspection it is sprouting new shoots from the thick stems,it will be interesting to see if any future flowers get beans when the pollinators come out,

It's not a vegetable ... but this morning I photographed some self-seeded Lobelia that is still flowering from last summer:

When I saw the title I expected the thread to be about car crashes and illness and the like
        Glad we're just talking plants!

I have some sweet peas about 3ft high!
They were clearly seeds from last years pods...and have just carried on growing since about October!

Not had any really cold weather here- and they are against a south facing granite wall.
On the same wall is a passion fruit- still fully green. Normally it dies back to it's base.

Just waiting for the real winter snap to happen!

Fuchsia Winston Churchill still has leaves (but no flowers) in one of my flower beds. The last 2 of the "Million Bells" that I had hung on my fence bit the dust in the gales last week, not because they died, but becasue they were literally blown to bits. They still had flower buds at the time.

I think we are in for a cold snap next weekend - temperatures of -4 or -5 are being talked about, which might nip off any stragglers.

Chives! Last year I bought a pot of them from a supremarket to use in a recipe. My partner potted them up and then they were forgotten. Two weeks ago I moved what I thought was a pot of earth and covered it over with a drip tray - just to dry out the compost. Moved it again a couple of days ago and hey presto there were masses of chives sprouting. Tasted a couple just to be sure they were chives and they are.

I've had a shocking pink pelargonium in flower all 'winter' (in the unheated greenhouse)
