Where to chit?

Please can someone help me...I am new to potato growing and have just brought my potatoes out to chit, I am hoping to plant in the second week of April. However I'm not sure where to put them, they are in egg boxes but I don't have a porch or conservatory or a cool room and all my windowsills are above radiators - apart from the office and that has a huge Lego Tower Bridge on the windowsill and my husband will shoot me if I move it! I've been looking on some other posts here and some people have said that I can put them in a unheated greenhouse as long as I bring them inside if a frost is forecast, will this be ok? I went in there this afternoon and it was actually quite balmy! Thank you.

An unheated greenhouse is ideal at this time of year. As you say, bring them inside if a frost threatens. Potatoes are OK with cold as long as they don't freeze. Lucky you having a greenhouse!

I use either my shed or garage never thought of using tbe greenhouse so can't say if that is a good idea or not. Was going to ask if you have a spare room you could use, assuming no one objects. They don't have to be right in the window so the radiator wouldn't have to be a problem.

In full light in a frost free place. Greenhouse is ideal but as has been said, take indoors if frost forecast

Thanks everyone, I love my greenhouse, I'm a pretty new gardener, only started last year but had a very successful season. My husband loves my greenhouse too - apparently it keeps me out of his way! I will go for chatting in the greenhouse then and keep an eye on the weather, happy planting!

Yet more talkative spuds. But seriously the GH will be fine , having said that mine are on the windowsill above a radiator and are ok,5 th year running!

they are supposed to grow slowly and produce small 3 cm purple/green shoots.If you keep them in the dark they will use all their energy producing long thin leggy white shoots which break easily when you plant them.You're only doing it to break the dormancy apparently

I know someone who puts her trays of tatties on top of wardrobes in bedroom..top of kitchen cupboards as well
