    Slugs need moisture!
This works for sure - I am using the method this year for the first time and the difference is notable. Also, using this method, if it rains after a few dry days the slugs go crazy because they are starving, so it's an ideal time to pop out with a torch to collect them. Around 11pm is ideal.

It must be a hard life being a slug.

I'd be pretty piddled off if I got squashed/drowned/electrocuted/thrown over hedges/ etc etc all because I was only trying to eat my dinner.

No, you're trying to eat somebody else's dinner!

Yes, it does work. 2 or 3 months ago I planted out 100 sweet pea plants and after using the water only in the morning method I STILL have a 100 sweet pea plants (now flowering)
Pain is still pain, suffering is still suffering, regardless of whoever, or whatever, is the victim.

I have millions of slugs and snails. They try to eat my brassicas, French beans, strawberries, potatoes, tomatoes etc but I have never known them to attack sweet peas. Mine are growing well and flowering.

I sowed a full packet of sweet pea seeds, and lost a full packets worth of sweet pea seedlings to the buggers

I left a piece of printer paper in the greenhouse last night. The buggers have eaten a good chunk off the corner!

Funnily enough, I have had no problems at all this year from slugs, of course I've had the odd couple now and again but nothing major. My main problem has been caterpillars and they've eaten basically all of my cabbages + lettuce!

It a pain we netted most of our beds this year especially the ones with cabbages and such things in and the little Gits still got in we kept the slugs out and the caterpillars got in :-( they destroyed almost all of our crop so any suggestion on deterring butterflies from laying eggs on your cabbage other than jut netting would be very great fully received :-)

For me, netting is still the best thing for cabbages. It needs to completely cover the bed without touching the leaves of the plants, to be fine enough to keep the butterflies out, you need to get it on there at the time you plant and the plants need to be free of butterfly eggs when you plant them.

                                Sorry!
