Woolly Tomatoes

I posted in another thread about woolly tomatoes, thought I'd post few pictures of some. There are a few varieties available like Garden peach, Elberta Girl and Red Velvet, though most aren't so Woolly as the ones I've shown and just have a very light furry-ness (sp)

Are they easier/harder to grow than non-furry toms?

They are just as easy to grow, although I think the heavily woolly ones perhaps are not as productive as more regular varieties, but that might just be the types I've come across. It's thought the woolliness might help prevent damage from some pests and diseases.

I love them because they look so pretty and are really touchy feely plants

I am glad I have been forewarned if i ever grow any of these I would chop them down thinking they had mildew.

Taste is great, like you'd expect a tomato to taste : Can't say I've ever noticed the skin being unpleasant, no where like sinking your teeth into a peach

The second picture looks like micro-toms I've grown these for the last 3 seasons on my window sills still have seeds so have some this year this is a seedling picture took today but when there more mature there very hairy too

Yes they do, even the fruit shape. I can't remember without checking, mine may have Micro Tom in its pedigree, though it is faintly striped and the fruit are twice the size of MT. It's not a stable variety so will develop with time.

Micro Toms certainly are a hairy type tomato. Amazing the little difference in varieties, some are totally hairless.

Here's a woolly type of a similar age, this looks to be a little dwarf type too. They do become less woolly as they get older.
