  • Cucumbers...

    Hi Folks

I've got 2 cucumber plants in one grow bag & I've noticed (on seed leaves only) a couple of white blobs (one on each leaf) about the size of a penny & sort of mildew "ish" looking. Are cucumbers prone to mildew & if so what can I use? I've been advised that botrytis might be a problem but that normally affects the base of the stem & the stems look OK. They are both in a ventilated cold greenhouse & only 1 plant looks affected at the moment. Please help! We have had rain more or less consistently since last Saturday ... could this be the problem ie: it's too damp??

    regards

Sounds like powdery mildew - cucumbers don't like to be cold and damp, but mildew usually occurs when the roots are dry and the tops wet and cold. Having said that I'm going to contradict myself and say if you've only recently planted them into the growbag you really must not overwater, if you do you'll drown the roots. Today has been a better day down here, so hopefully your plants will recover. Make sure you ventilate well when the weather is suitable. Good Luck.
