You don't have to plant them all at once, I have 4 x 4m rows to plant (International Kidney), the first row will be going in near the end of March then the rest at weekly intervals.
Excellent advice, thanks!
I'll follow you on this and out one row in this weekend, calming my fidgety hands, and still leaving me with enough spuds to start over if all fails now ;-)
Tomorrow night into Monday morning seems to be the risky time with some places forecast down to -4. There is a forecast map here weather model gfs - united kingdom - temperature (2m) [base + 3] - zoom - weatheronline - hover your mouse over the numbers at the top of the map, which are hours ahead, and you will see the day and time, and the map will update to then. 6am Monday looks worst. The temperatures on the map are 2m temperatures and I think represent built up areas, so if you live in a frost pocket or out in the country it may well get colder.
Maps for other parts of the world are available on the same website.
We have a little frost here too, we have some Echiums that self seed every year (we overwinter some in the greenhouse) and usually don't make it through the winter, we covered them with fleece last night hoping that they will make it.
I think it was a fairly brief nip here, and as we haven't planted anything that isn't hardy yet, we're not too worried. While the new week still looks a bit chilly in the forecast, there's no more frost this week, and while I would have liked to turn the heating off indoors, the allotment should be fine.
Freezing fog here this morning and down to about -2 over night. Lovely and sunny again now though. Probably less cold tonight but there could be another frost tomorrow night if skies clear.
