  • Potting on pre-germinated chilli seeds

I decided to pre-germinate my chilli seeds, by placing them on damp kitchen roll, in a plastic bag inside a heated propagator.

Now I notice the wee roots are showing on a few of the seeds.

I now have to pot them on, into their own individual pots .. but was wondering, are chilli plants similar to tomatoes, which are usually potted on, into 3" pots buried up to their seed leaves.

If this is the same for peppers, I'll have to transplant again, unless I perhaps pop the wee seeds and their root in a 3-4" pot which is only half full, then at a later date, just fill the pot, up or at least near to the level of the seed leaves.

thank you for any advice provided

Yes - Chillies are like tomatoes. They should be potted on deep.

(At least that is what I do, and what I have read from various sources)....

Same as me although you won't notice the roots shoots from the stem until later in the season

Using the paper towel method, I wait until there is around 10-15mm of root showing and then pot them into a seedling tray just below the surface of the compost and pop them on a windowsill.

I've then waited for them to grow to their 2nd or 3rd set of true leaves before potting on.
