Looks like Jerusalem artichoke to me. Is that a yellow flower coming out on the top of the big one? JA has a yellow flower... (Horseradish has a white flower)
Jerusalem artichoke is a great vegetable to grow. It will grow pretty much anywhere.

scrape some off ...if its tough and woody it wont be a j.a ... taste it ...if its horseradish you will know straight away. If they are j.a's throw 90% and keep the last 10% severely curtailed. If its horseradish give 90% away and keep the last 10% severaly curtailed......
A friend has suggested it's wild parsnip and thus poisonous! But will scrub one up in a mo once my critters have stopped giving their Dad the runaround!
