Mouldy toilet roll tubes

So I thought I'd try out some advice I saw somewhere (maybe on here) to try growing Sweetcorn in toilet roll tubes.

Planted up the first five last weekend - with plan to do a second batch next weekend both for the greenhouse then the rest to be done for outside.

All the tubes are covered in a white mouldy fur. Have I just been unlucky? or is there something I should have done to stop it happening? Will it do my crop any harm?

Thanks Bren. Had a look but I think my search was poor. So the link was very useful.

So conclusion seems to be not harmful but if want to avoid I should microwave the tubes.

Polc1410 I agree about the vine search being hard to use, i use the link below with search word typed in front. give it a go and see what you think :-

I have stopped trying to use any card board tubes as I found that germination was poor and even after microwaving the cardboard seemed to inhibit germination .
For peas beans etc I use newspaper pots made with the aid of varying sized jam jars and cello tape.
Germination has been great.My Borlotti beans are very happy this year as are my Broadbeans.Roots can pierce the damp paper andI plant the whole bot with no root disturbance .
