I find carrots are fairly slow, but mine are germinating here - I would think 3 weeks would be the minimum at this time of year. I always start leeks inside and grow onions from sets so I am not much help with those.

I now have carrots appearing, soil must have warned up enough. Must get the bubble wrap ready, I take it carrots don't do frost?

Carrots sown 3 weeks ago (in a bed covered with mesh) are just showing now. Leeks and onions sown at the same time, but in trays in the unheated greenhouse - no sign of the onions yet, but the leeks are just peeping through. Give it another week

I've just noticed my carrots peeping through this morning, they were sown outside about 4 weeks ago

ah ok, i am just being impatient! Its the spring....the sun is out so the temptation is to go! go! go!. My tomatoes and lettuce are up so I am doing something right.

My chosen carrot varieties are James Scarlet Intermediate and Autum King 2.

Yes, after 3 weeks from sowing my carrots they have appeared. I've sown both carrots and spring onions and both have taken 3 weeks to germinate outside with some fleece protection. I'm in East Anglia

it's still cold at night though, and the carrots don't like the cold. You'll get some germination at these temps, but better & quicker results when the nights warm up a bit (double figures)
