who grows quinoa and where?

I'm growing quinoa this year for the first time, but I already eat commercially grown quinoa all the time.

We eat it like rice, with sauces or in stir frys. Or we put it in falafel, or cold salads.

I direct sow quinoa quinoa as early as the soil can be worked (after the snow has melted and the top soil defrosted in march/april). Quinoa is frost hardy! But don't plant it when the soil temps are hot, quinoa won't germinate in super warm temperatures.
Is its easy? YES it is easy. You can do it : )

It's a shame that the veggie mob's/latest diet-fad crowd's enthusiasm for quinoa means the people who grew it as a staple now can't afford to eat it.

Hey Sparrow100: That is too bad that some people who grew it as a staple can't afford to eat it now. There is a really great and recent well researched discussion article at Agricultural Bioversity webblog. Well worth reading if you are interested in learning about the Latin American perspective on the issue.

Yeah I' m growing it this year for the first time and it looks like a weed , fat hen to be precise to which it is closely related. I actually think I hoed the first sowing off I restarted mine in modules and will be planting out this weekend

How tall are yours ? Mine seem to be really slow starters and are only a couple of inches tall. I decided not to plant out and potted them up into 3 inch pots to grow on and avoid confusion with the weeds.i have a lot of weeds from this years manure and they are very difficult to distinguish apart

who grows quinoa and where?

I have 12 planted out now and they are about a foot high, still look like a weed though

I grew some a couple of years ago and it did look like fat hen, but fat hen is also edible. They grew fairly easily and I got a decent harvest, but we found the whole processing to get the bits off took forever and even once we'd done all that and given them a good soaking and a wash, they still didn't taste like the shop bought stuff. I'll have to try again next year, but I was pretty disappointed.
