potato compost

I have grown potatoes for a number of years in grow bags using vegetable or muti purpose compost. I am in a position where I cannot spend much money (also I am a Yorkshireman). I have already sewn the earliy tatties using same method in small grow bags.
I have some largish pop up refuse garden bags for the maincrop. Unfortunately these bags use rather a lot of compost due to size of bags. What do you think to using tomato or veg grow bag material in the bags? Aldi have some reasonably priced grow bags and hopefully would be cheaper.

If you have a B&Q near you drop in and look round, they were doing some big bags of their verve compost for a good price. Mentioned on here a few weeks back.

You may need to look in their gardening section as they do not seem to be stood at the entrance to their stores, well not at mine anyway but they are in the garden bit.

Could try one of those and a bag of manure and a few handfuls of chicken pellets.

I use any-old-compost, typically cheapest I can lay my hands on, I earth up with all the rubbish sieved out of multi purpose used for small modules (where big-bits would make it hard for the little seedling to grow), and contents of any pots that have snuffed it. I also use material from my compost heap.

Only thing I don't use is compost from last year's potato grow bags (sort of "crop rotation").

However, I do add some fertiliser in case the compost I am using has been depleted (I add it even if usin brand new, straight from the bag, multi purpose compost)

As mentioned here B&Q Verve in 120ltr bags. Just add 4 oz of BFB

I reuse my old compost I used to do like Kristen and give a nod to crop rotation but now unless I've had a problem the previous year I don't bother to much. Store it over winter add BFB or growmore as a basic fertiliser and then feed the dustbins through the season.
