Why am I so far ahead this year?

Compared to last year I seem to be streets ahead and right on top of my allotment.

Maybe those plans I instigated for paths and beds and everything being as I wanted it for easy maintenance have finally come to fruition?

So much so that, even though I have two plots I could easily manage another.

I started with one plot but found I didn't have enough space for what I wanted to grow. I then aquired another plot (you have to remember there was no waiting list then and the plot was derelict) and got myself some chickens.

I could probably manage another plot as well so may take on another if the waiting list is non existant and it will add to the Association funds.

This year possibly three..........next year the world!

I honestly don't know Thelma? I did spend more time weeding the paths last year than growing stuff in the beds. I seem to have the paths under control now so have plenty of time to spend on the beds.
I also worked on a lot of projects,greenhouses,chicken coops and runs, raised beds etc which once done don't need any time spending on them!

I think the relatively good weather is helping in comparison to last year when it was so horrendous with snow and hail a plenty well into late spring.

Spent some time at mine yesterday - hardly anything to do at the moment so wasn't worried when I awoke to find it damp this morning. Caught up with a few jobs at home instead. I have spent quite a lot of time there already this year.

I was thinking along the same lines snadger,it must be on account off no proper winter,with the milder/sunnier weather leading our brains into an earlier growing frame of mind,plus we like to take the early challenge,

I kept putting of sowing stuff this year thinking we'd get late snow but up to yet its not arrived so I feel like I'm behind compared to other years.

I kind of agree with this. In many ways I'm well in front, but as I start looking ahead to what needs doing next, I keep thinking "Will I get all that done in time?". The fact that my garden seems very confused with the weather isn't helping me determine whether I'm on schedule or not either. Example: My fig started coming into leaf before my cherry, yet was two months behing it last year. All my reference points and indicators I'd figured out last year are all messed up

I have to admit when I read the title I thought there's no need to brag snadge!!!

I'm ahead in some things and behind in others, last year I had carrots in and up about 6 inches by now, this year I haven't put any in yet. Sometimes I can be overly keen and have things well in advance, last year my swedes went in early and I chucked half of them on the compost as they were woody when I wanted to eat them.

I'm pleased you are ahead of the game, a little jealous, actually no I'm green with envy look.

A wise Chinese man once said "(()*_ ^%%& &&(( ^%^$^" which is in Chinese so I never understood it. But it could have meant that you only truly know you are ahead when you are at the point of a successful harvest. Any earlier than that and you really don't know.

With this damp and mild winter / spring - just wait for the slugs, moulds and blight later in the year to prove that no gardening year is the same.
