I think chitting helps with time-to-harvest in First Earlies - but having said that if you had some chitted, and some not, then the chitted ought to have put on more weight, if they were "ahead", than the non-chitted??

My other reason for chitting (and I know it is oft debated with views on both sides) is "What to do with them if you don't chit them" as they are gonna sprout sooner or later, and I would prefer not the long white shoots that I have to rub-off-and-start-again as I think that wastes the seed tuber's energy. So I chit mine anyway, regardless of whether it improves yield / harvest date.

That's my reason too, that and it gives we the illusion I've done something by resting a load of spuds in egg trays.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
