Asparagus Pea - Has anyone tried them?

Among all my packets of seeds I've found a packet of Asparagus Peas. Has anyone grown them? Do they really taste like Asparagus?

Yeh....they do sort of!

I really like them
The flowers are really pretty and worth growing just for that!

They do however grow stringy very quickly, so you need to pick them at least every other day and take them at just over an inch long.
I steam mine and roll in butter.
They are not massive croppers so I tend to steam mine every other day with other veg, so they are just an extra flavour on the plate.

Don't pick them longer than 4 cm or you will be picking fibres out of your mouth!

Good for a starter. You'll not have many ready at the same time ,so they are just a taster.

Home made bread and Parma type ham...mmmmm...glass of chilled wine...mmmmm

I'm trying these for the first time this year. Can't wait to see what happens with them. They haven't germinated yet, it's only been a few days

I grew a small plot of them last year. Cropped reasonably well, but I wasn't a fan of the taste or texture. For me, not worth the effort - but don't let that put you off! You might find you grow them and love them. Variety is the spice of life and all that.

I grew them once ... too much faff picking them young enough to be tender, and we never properly managed it, so decided we didn't have time to do it justice so added it to my, fairly long, list of "Only grown once" veg.

Ive germinated some but they've only just poked through.
James Wong suggests cropping at no larger than 3cm then slicing finely in cross section to break up the fibres.

I've never grown them, but having tasted them once I've no wish to try.

I grew them and ate in stir frys. They make great ground cover, and as already mentioned they have pretty red flowers.
