I grew several varieties outside last year, it was a very good sunny year mind so I don't know how I would have fair in a typical summer.

I grew Alicante, Cherry, Plumb, Money Maker, Tigerella and some beefsteak type.

Not sure of the exact varieties on some but basically it seems to me I could have grown any variety, however that was particularity good summer, not sure how I would have faired in a cold damp one, maybe I will find out this year!!

Some of the bigger varieties never ripened on the plant, but they ripened up beautifully once picked, so I will no longer have any worries about them remaining green on the plant, it's not a problem at all.

I grew money maker and pear drop outside last year. Pear drop did fine but my moneymaker didnt ripen in time, no worry, green tomato chutney for them and they were very nice!
