Does excess water drain out at the base of each pocket?

Looking at Sarriss's planter, it looks like she put french beans in there?...I would have thought they would be too big?????
Be interesting as you say to see how well it worked out.

Going to get it hung up in the next couple of days. I was thinking of compost straight in the pockets or plant pots into the pockets. I will then water then to see how well the drainage is, maybe add some holes to the bottom of the pockets if necessary.

I'm not really into herbs and i've already popped up my strawberries. I'd love to try this idea out but other then herbs and straberries what else could I plant? Would carrots work?

Anyone handy with a sewing machine, and make some out of old sheets ext, even if the fabric has to be double,if water is likely to drain out, pots as suggested could be used,or line say half way up with plastic, why buy if you can recycle exetera, you can then have a size pocket to suit any pots you have,i do like a challenge, something for next years new batch of strawberry runners for home,

Recycling as far as I am concerned is the best way to go! ...no arguments from me with that!

I have a friend who does this sort of thing..

and hers look just as wonderful!

..they just take a bit of time to make sure everything is watered properly!

Those shoes are so cute.....I'm imagining toddler sizes through to 'big girl' sizes!

Must go for a rummage in the shoe cupboard now.....

Well I finally got round to putting it up tonight. I already had a few pots already on the go so I thought its a good time as any.
I have in the pots spinach, rocket, valamine letuce, nice and spicey leaves, mixed lettuces and a few other bits.

My plan is to get some deeper pots that go all the way to the bottom of the pocket. I decided against just filling the pockets with compost so that I can quickly replace any that are about done with pots that are aready started with new plants.

How about using cut down plastic bottles to fill your pockets?
