  • squash varieties

I'm thinking of ordering seeds for theses 2 varieties of squash:
Waltham Butternut and Burgess Vine Buttercup
has anyone tried growing these and also are they actually safe to eat and do you just cook them like you do with a shop-bought squash?
I'm a bit paranoid about poisoning myself lol!

    Er, yes...

I'm not quite sure why you are worried, though.

      squash

I'm currently growing 2 burgess vine buttercup plants from seed, planted in situ. They seem quite happy, and have not suffered the slug damage my small courgette plants have. I think you may be confusing squash with gourds, some of which can be inedible.

Make sure you give them plenty of space though, as they grow biiig!

Depends on the variety, there are some which are bush varieties which have a neater habit but most squashes will trail all over the place. I usually train the ones I grow up some trellis but obviously you can only do this if it's a smaller fruiting variety. Check the packet of any variety you try to grow for a clue.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Salina, you just cook them like shop bought. Not sure why you think they might poison you.
Chickenjane, I can't speak for all varieties of squash, but my butternut sprinter sprawled out about 8 feet. Maybe some varieties are smaller - or bigger !

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
