  • does fertiliser go off?

I've been given a half bottle of maxicrop seaweed extract fertiliser. It stinks to high heaven. Can't really describe it. It's a mixture of ammonia and well rotted pig do-dah. Will it still be ok?

what does the label have to say?

assuming there's no "use by" date, then go ahead and use it up

It definitely sounds like it's gone off. The use by date is normally about 2 years if unopened but if it's been opened and smells like you describe it's gone off. I would play safe and avoid using it. I work for a company that manufactures these type of products - they should smell of the sea.

Well farmyard manure stinks but it works ok, if it was me I would just mix some up as directed and pour it onto something that is not important, maybe some weeds. If they die use it as weed killer, if they double in size use it as fertilizer. Win win.

Also if it smells of pig do dah, you could use it as "Oinkment"
