Caliente seeds

I've had a problem in my small raised salad bed for the last couple of years and last year pretty well gave up on it. I read about caliente being a fumigant as well as green manure and bought my seeds. They are all sown and I have a lovely green covering all over the bed. I know what to do with it eventually (chop small, bury, seal and leave for two weeks) but I haven't been able to find out at what height it is chopped down.
One site I saw said just as it starts flowering. Any advice welcome. Thanks

It depends if you chop it as a a) green manure, or b) if you leave it unchopped & just grow it for seed.

a) it'll flower at whatever height you've last chopped it to: mine is 18"
b) it'll be about 6ft tall


You don't have to chop the whole plant down in a one-er.

I've been putting a few chopped leaves into each planting hole, leaving the rest of the plant to carry on growing

Thanks Twosheds. I need to cut it and bury it. I assume I'll have to let it grow for a while yet then. I need it mainly as a fumigant at the moment, although I will probably get more seed, sow it later this year and grow it for manuring.
