Watering propagators?

So on my kitchen windowsil I have quite a few propagators so that I can keep them watered here without having to go down to the allotment everyday. I am concerned about over-watering and everytime I go to water them the soil still seems very damp because the lid preserves the moisture.

Should I water them still if the soil is damp? How long is the most I can leave them without watering?

If your plants are through, you shouldn't need the lids on. Then it's just a case of feeling the weight of the pots, if they feel heavy then they don't need water.

I have those type of 1/4 size seed trays with transparent lids. I don't water at all until the seeds germinate, the I remove the cover and water as they need it - which is when the container becomes light, and then I stand them in a bowl of water for 5 minutes.

No, don't water every day just because you think you should. Stand the plants in a saucer/tray of water for 5 mins drink, then remove them. They'll take up what they need.
