I've never grown these mini cobs before, and none of my books tell me very much, please can someone give me an idea of how prolific each plant is, these are Minipop F!, and are now about 2/3 inches high, still inside, and I know should be planted about 8inches apart, I have about 30? Wonder if should be planting another lot?

I did some (16) about 4 years ago and haven't bothered since. Ours were Mini Pop.I naively thought you would get several mini cobs per plant but the reality was only one cob per mini plant.

From what I've read,supposed to get 4/5 per plant,I thought you'd get lots more, I also didn't realise that the plants got so tall, I thought small plant and small cobs!
Silly me, well I'll stick them in, I and also get some proper size ones I think,they taste so good.DottyRComment

Your right, packets say 4-5 but I didn't get that, mine were only very short as well, probably 14" high, I looked for a photo but couldn't find one, good luck!Comment

I got 4 or 5 per plant, but never managed to pick them at the right time - blink-and-miss-it. I thought they were a waste of time as a crop, but I have read of other people having great success. At the time the kids loved them, so I grew them for 3 or 4 years before the kids grew up and I grew out of them!

I always plant both sorts. You can have a bar-b-q without sweetcorn being roasted but the kids eat mini cobs for fun and at £1.50 for 8 in the supermarket, it's worth the effort.
In my experience only carrots hate having their roots disturbed more than corn so they're always planted in toilet roll middles and put straight into the soil that way.
Like Kristen said, they're a blink and you miss them plant but as that's also true with PSB and Mangetout, I try to make sure we harvest at just the right time.Proud renter of 4.6 acres of field in Norfolk. Living the dream.

I found that difficult to judge, as you can't "see" inside the sheath - and the more you pull it away to check the more you wreck the developing cob, if it is not ready. Whereas PSB and Magetout are there in full view, shouting from the plant, that you should have picked them last weekOriginally posted by The Nichols' View Post

apparently they do not do so well if grown near other types of sweetcorn .not sure why something to do with cross pollination

The Minipop will be fine, its the other sweetcorn that can easily be wrecked. But as the Minipop doesn't need to be pollinated you can just snap off the tassels when they appear (at the top of the Miinipop plants) which will stop them producing any pollenOriginally posted by lyndapet View PostK's Garden blog the story of the creation of our gardenComment
