Very early crop! There is a field full of field beans near us which were sown in the autumn and they are yet to produce pods. Our own spring sown broad beans are only now setting pods. I think it has been a good year for this crop given the mild winter and the cool spring, as broad beans don't like hot and dry weather.
Certainly one of my favourite crops, and I wish you well with a bumper crop!
I've got a few pods growing on mine... frustratingly they'd been flowering for months with nothing much doing but I notice a few bees sniffing around and it looks like they've done their job!
Think mine should be big enough to eat next weekend as they have over wintered well as it's been so mild.
Broadway there's nothing like eating your home grown produce.not just the sheer pride that you have produced it but the fact that it's so fresh and tasty. Have you grown your own sweet corn ..some things you will just never buy from the shops again!
My son always eats them straight off the plants whole.
Hi just beginning to get some height and cannot wait to get fresh beans to make a lovely garlic and bb humus with some chicken to kick start the broad bean fest off.
Cannot get enough of them fresh and the shop bought ones are rubbish over grown tough and not what you would just open at the plot on an early morning for a tasty mouthfull
Happy gardening
