  • Bird troubles...

Does anyone have any tips on deterring these pesky wood pigeons from my crops until I get some netting?

On a related note, does anyone have any recipes for pigeon? Om nom nom

I've considered getting some of those metallic garden spinners, as I don't want to be sat in my back garden enjoying the evening while staring at a sea of netting

            What are they doing?

This is my first year of growing a lot and my carrot seedlings keep going missing. Something has literally been taking them out the ground... do you think it could be pigeons? We have a couple living around the garden :/

Pigeons are very curious and pull anything out of the ground just to be nosey, especially onion sets, they love pulling them out. I suppose carrot seedlings look rather feathery too and they might use them in the nest. Mine kept pulling my broccoli out, must have replanted them 10 times lol

I'm surrounded by pigeons, and I mean lots of 'em! They do come into the garden, but they have never done any damage to any young plants. Never touched the onions or brassica seedlings. They must know I have a .410 handy.

I watched and episode of Postman Pat the other week.. (with my grandson) and Pat used an old wind-up cuckoo clock as a bird scarer. It seemed to work a treat as their we no wood pigeons eating the farmers cabbages in the following episode.

Would surrounding the plants with twigs, branches, etc help??
.......because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. (Veggie Chicken - 25/01/18)

Wood pigeon salad with blackberry vinegar....one of my fav recipes for a starter!
                          http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=b...erchef&f=false

I stick twiggy sticks every wear and thread string haphazardly through them. There is a pigeon shooting hide near my garden and I'm over run with them luckily my son is a handy shot!
