  • Brasica planting

This is the first year I have grown brasica's on a large scale. In the past I have only grown PSB and a few spring cabbages.

With these I always plant to the first true leaves is this the same for all brasicas?

I am ok on the netting and spacing requirements, its just the planting depth

i always plant up to the first true leaves into a slight hollow. .this helps retain moisture and i earth up slightly later on as i am on a windy site. Hope this is helpful

Yep! Up to there "Armpits" and as "Lottie" said, further if "Leggy" but make sure you firm em in hard! Kristen did post a comment about the scientific values of not letting em get wind rock, and disturbing there root hairs!

And forgot who it was, but I don't have problems with my hair roots too!

        I just don't have many!

Its a fair bet that you can plant anything up to its seed leaves (e.g. if leggy). Even things like Cucumber, which hate having their stems wet, are OK with planting up to seed leaves (at least).

But as other have said it is OK to plant brassicas deeper. Mine normally grow a useless stem (i.e. above seed leaves), curled around on the deck, before they then head upwards for the sky. I "plant" all that excess as otherwise the plant is not well anchored.
