Debris netting holes

Have planted our brassicas over the weekend under a tunnel covered with debris netting, how have people covered the holes that run the length of the netting? I have two rows of holes to cover, or have you just left them?

I tied mine up as best as possible with fishing wire.

I didn't want to take any chances so I sown mine up.

I've sown some too, although I did cheat with one lot and use clothes pegs to clip them together... worked OK until it got windy and the pegs popped open. I've seen others using string or something drawn through the holes too, it seems to work well, but if you're going to use it regularly I'd sew it.

personally I leave the holes and have had no problems so far
(I just know i'm going to regret posting that)

We looked at the managers brassica cage and found a butterfly had laid eggs on the outside of the debris netting right above his sprouts the eggs hatched and worked their way through the mesh and fell onto the plants below, it will keep the majority off but not completely foolproof

I always sew mine,put the machine on the biggest stitch,you need to hold the fabric taught as you go,or the stitching will crack,the other thing to notice when using the net is,what ever your prefered way of holding the net in place is,make double sure nothing can get under it,best of luck,

Best get some sewing done while you're at it...................

I left the holes in the debris netting unstitched last year and no butterflies got in at all. It was my first year though, so I might just have been lucky!

We sew ours, using fishing line and blanket stitch knotted on each stitch. Takes ages but worth it in the long run. (wish we had a sewing machine..)
