  • Whats wrong with my Butt?

    Hello all!

I've noticed that the water coming out of my water butt is a bit frothy and slightly yellow. I only noticed the colour because I was using a metal watering can. Do you think its ok to use? I did give it a good clean at the beginning of the year. I've stopped using it on my veg just in case.

Probably for some fermenting vegetable matter in it. Is it collecting water from a gutter that gets leaves in it. I have one that gets the fallen flowers in it from a Field Maple and they ferment very quickly.

Ah! Yes, its right by an apple tree so I guess that could be the problem. I'll clean it out again and move it if I can.

Don't be too hasty, you might have cider.

In my book, the more discoloured the better!

If you're collecting rainwater from a roof, via guttering, you're going to have leaf and other plant-based sediment, and bird excrement, washing into the water and into the butt.

Might not sound wholesome, but on the contrary, it is. (MiracleGro is concentrated bird excrement.) The plants will appreciate it.
Pain is still pain, suffering is still suffering, regardless of whoever, or whatever, is the victim.

Ok, that's food for thought. I have used the water a bit to water garden plants and it hasn't done them any harm so far. Thanks for the info!
