garlic has not split into cloves

I scraped some of the soil back from around my morado variety garlic earlier today. (Don't know why, I just fancied a look)

I planted them all beginning of November.

None of them have split into cloves.

THey are all just one solid bulb!

Is this because winter was so mild here in South Wales?

ahhh ok, I though they actually developed the cloves during 6 weeks or so of cold weather????

I am also in South Wales and also had a furtle of my Morado garlic today. I also found the same situation below ground. I was also thinking the same thing.

hmmm, Well I guess time will tell.....

Maybe the cloves form later in the season then?

Just like a shallot, one minute they are just one lump, the next they have separated and you have a wonderful bounty.

I suppose that it's still very early to expect cloves, there's another three months to go after all...

I'm in the south west, not that far from the seven Bridge! Mine are planted in Oct and lifted end June/early July. Be patient

from a bit of investigation, the softneck garlic I have grown hasn't seperated yet, but the hardneck has... goodness knows why.

I remember thinking this last year, then end of June/start of July lo and behold some nice big cloves
