I have just ordered 2 x grafted black toms from a postage only (£1.99) offer at suttons, 0844 922 0606, they are a lot darker than my usual black Russian so I hope they are not too long in arriving, we have to make room for them, somewhere, but we will sort that out when they get here,....you must quote order code ADB14, they will ask you the six figure code in sats daily mirror but we couldn't find it and the person in the call centre found it for us, valid until 30th of the month. looking at their site the toms are usually £9.99 for three so its worth a go......I found that 6 figure code, its 244955 , okay...
Thanks very much for this Buffs, I've just ordered my indigo rose toms online and that code worked a treat. I got 2 free cucamelon plants in the post from Suttons last week thanks to another kind grape posting a thread about it on here. I really appreciate the community spirit of passing details of good deals on to others.
my black tom plants arrived (looking really strong and healthy) while we were away but potted up now and growing away lovely, just waiting to see what they taste like now, as I cant seem to get the hang of posting photos I will report how they fare at harvest time. I saved the seeds from the olympe toms from last year and growing them again as they tasted so good...its just the waiting now and we are 3/4 weeks behind the south so we now need long hot sunny days...

today I cut a truss of the black toms to enter into tomorrows show, they were turned each week to even up the colouring. the black Russian toms I grew last year obviously crossed with the huge olympe and now we have black Russian the size of small melons, the first lot of nine all easily weighed well over the pound and they have kept their flavour. the blue Chinese have grown well but we don't get enough sunshine to turn them their proper colour but do have a very rich sweet taste, so I will be doing a lot of seed saving again this year, maybe the olympe will cross with the blue to give me jumbo sized plum shaped toms, with my olympe Russians I could also get some great wall of china blues and end up with doorstep sarnies using just one slice of tom, , a good cheese and a refreshing glass of cider to wash it down, i must go now as I have made myself hungry...
we have just got back from the local flower show and it has not been too bad at all. I got a first for a long California type pepper, a second for my melon, blue tatties and eating apples and OH got two thirds for blackcurrant and gooseberry jams. we did no good with the blue Chinese toms(they didn't colour up properly) and the indigo rose (black) caused a stir as the bigger shows are now giving them a separate class, apart from the normal red toms, according to the guest judge who covers a lot of the bigger shows but did not separate them today, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd were really fine exhibits so no complaints from me, 6 results from 8 entries is quite a good day by any standard, so I am a happy boy today.....
