Help with my tom seedlings

Hi guys , hoping you will help me with some suggestions

Sot my tomato seedlings from the kit I bought from yo base have now got to about the three to four inch height and are becoming over crowded in the small container. There is about a good 6-8 seedlings.

Now I'm new to all this and looking for advise on size of container I'll need for all the seedlings? I thought about the tomato grow bags you can get, can I put them into one of those? I would presume now with what I read about them needing 12 inches of soil that this is a no? Temps dropped a little too in the night outside here recently, so is it best to keep them indoors still at night? They have been going outside when we had that hot spell last week during the day.

You need to pot up the seedlings into individual pots (3" - 4") first and grow them on a bit before you put them in their final growing position.

Remove lower leaves and plant deep. Stem will root providing healthier stronger plant.

I'll put them in some smaller tubs first (have some of those already )

As for variety pass :/ they just came in a kit. (have actually been on Homebase website this morning but can't find it!) Mental note made for making sure I take note in future.

Tomato plants grow very successful in grow bags as long as you remember to water them regularly. Where the 12in comes from I'm not sure but for many years grow bags have produced very healthy and high cropping toms for me.

I do put a large bottomless pot on top of the hole in the grow bag, fill that with compost and plant into that. But it's not a definite requirement, just helps to maintain a more even supply of water.

I have just planted toms in their final containers.I am using "dirt pots" 11 litre for the first time.
They seem to be good,but time will tell.Any one used them before? The ones I am using are Plant - it pots, although I understand that there are " airpots" and several other makes.Would like to know!

Pot on the individual seedlings into quite large pots (3 to 5 inches). Tomatoes at this time of year grow incredibly rapidly and will soon fill the pot with roots and make good growth. As soon as the pot is full with roots, get them planted outside and trained to a cane or a string, having enriched the planting soil with good compost. If you are growing them in a large pot, the larger the better (within reason) then use lots of fresh compost (from the compost heap is best!). Unless you have wonderful garden soil, I wouldn't recommend planting them in pots with soil. If it is possible to plant directly in the soil in a sheltered sunny spot, so much the better.

Are they the Hydrofarm dirt pots V? If so, they look expensive. I use free black flower buckets with holes around the bottom. Be interesting to see the results you get.

We'll they are moved now into 11cm diameter pots for now as soon as they look to be getting to big I'll move again. Just look a bit limp now and waiting to recover. Cucumbers mover to into bigger pots that's me done for today.
